The GONE COMPLETELY RAILWAY

Here is a tribute to the former Great Central Main line which ran through my old hometown of Nottingham. All images were taken from 1959-1969 when the railway was still in BR hands. There are a lot of shots in and around Nottingham but some from elsewhere too. If anyone requires copies (legally) I can make them available for £1 per 6 by 4 print (BW) and colour 6 by 4 for £1.50. These will be printed to the full edge and will come without the copyright warning. NOTE - DO NOT press the buy button below each picture - if you do this you will buy a low resolution picture with a copyright warning. To get info on how to buy high quality images with no copyright markings..... E-mail bygonz@yahoo.com for more information.

NOTE to find shots of diesels working over the Former Great Central please check out the DIESELS in the 60's gallery!

WARNING! ALL are copyright - do not steal by downloading esp as I am making them available legally

Sit back, enjoy and remember the glory of the once proud Great Central Line - built by visionaries and destroyed by moronic politicians!

A visit to the biggest rail event of this year and the bank holiday weather was superb. There was something for everyone here and I thought the £7.50 entry fee was worth every penny. It was good to see Oliver Cromwell again - my first encounter and photo since August 1968! I have uploaded most of the modern image shots plus a few steam. I wonder how many people missed D2860 .. and where on earth was the Bulleid Q class ?? I didnt see it !

Diesels in the 1960's

A nostalgic look back to the early days of diesels. I am very lucky to possess a family archive of both steam and diesel photographs dating from 1959 and I actually took a few myself. I will constantly add to this gallery or rotate the images and bowing to requests I am making quality copies available as 6 by 4 prints - b/w at £1.50 and colour at £2. Just send me a message via email to order - bygonz@yahoo.com.

Note ALL images are prior to 1969 and GENUINE BR photos - no preserved or recreated shots here! MORE shots constantly being added - do come and check back soon.

WARNING - ALL images are copyright - Downloading any is a breach of my copyright!

Brush Works Sat 7th Feb

A visit to Brush Works to see the last batch of Class 57 re-builds and anything else present.DRS were well represented with work even on the elderly Class 20's. Harry Needle's orange 37 was in - the very one damaged at Barrow Hill. The steel blue 56 aka 56201 was still lurking inside in a place near impossible for photting ! This was a legitimate visit but note the photographs may not be published in any magazine or on any website. Many thanks to Don Chapman - this was likely my last visit.

Stockport Drags October 5th 2003

Just some of the sights at Stockport on a busy Sunday in October 2003. Due to engineering works there drags from Liverpool and Preston into Stockport and the southbound services were terminating at Northampton.. It was a busy time at Stockport station as it was the scene of most loco changes.

All shots taken on Sunday 5th October 2003

I also went off to the Barrow Hill first born gala and then came back to Stockport to get some more shots - quite a day!
